I Know You Got Soul: Looks Like UAD Multi-Media

What's up?

I was doing some reading online and I came across a blog by hip hop artist Quest, and his blog talked about how image was primary and the music was secondary. I found it interesting in the sense that he was talking about the marketability of the product an artist produces. Personally, I think that the other side of this is what makes your product stand out. What makes your product special? It's just like the music, what makes your song stand out amongst everything else? I thought the piece was good; but to me it should have been an all encompassing look at image(s) and the music. Now with that said, today I'm going to talk about the art work that all of you see with anything that we have been releasing.

Preston Kirton; founder of UAD Multi-Media has been doing my art work since I really started pushing my music seriously. When we were planning back in the last quarter of 2008 for the new year we talked about what we wanted to see that we were not seeing anymore in terms of the presentation of products in the urban market. Now for us, putting the pieces out on the table is the first step and then we talk about what we can do to make us stand out. Usually, it all starts with a concept or an idea. Once the idea is out there, everything just takes off. Preston will take it from there and just blow me away with the artwork.

Anybody looking for graphic design work of any sort you can reach him on Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/urbanangeldesigns

There is a lot more to come from UAD Multi-Media this year so stay tuned and prepare to be amazed.

I'll be back more with on Sunday.

Until then, keep grinding.

Let's go !!!

I Know You Got Soul: Updating The Next Level

What's going on everyone?

I'm back and boy is there a lot of new things to talk about; this past week has been amazing. The question is where to start? Should I start with the placements, the interviews, the additions to the team, the new music, or the downloads?

We'll started with the updates on Second Renaissance. Since we dropped it at the top of the year, the song has really picked up in the last 2 weeks. Now the record is doing incredible and has been added to blogs, mix tape djs are requesting it, as well as record pools and mix shows are adding it to their rotations. Second Renaissance to date has been downloaded over 23,000 times. Now to really push the record to the next level we have partnered with Mp3 Waxx. Today they will launching their email blast campaign for Second Renaissance. On top of that, I have been talking with Lee Uno about us putting together a visual for the record... More on that, as the details come together.

Dub City Chronicles is the next project we released in Feb. I just got the numbers from everybody and right now Dub City has over 35,500+ Downloads. I was speechless when I got the numbers from everyone. I would like to thank everyone for helping push this to the masses and really get it out there. Since the year started we been leaking a new release from the project each week. After the record came out, we continued and in between sometimes dropped an additional record to give you fans more music. Now the campaign for Dub City is winding down, we will be dropping a song a week this weekend and next weekend before we fully move onto to S.O.S. is which is on deck next... Get ready for that.

As you can see through all the feature pieces on the blog, you are getting to see some of the people who are involved behind the scenes. I've got a few more pieces coming on this blog featuring other producers as well as some insight to our multi-media team.

There is much more going on that we are planning to bring everyone. New artwork, new promotional music, as well as a new campaign and we will also be doing a physical version of S.O.S. Those are just some of the other things that are in the works. We have added producers, directors, and more media people to really take everything up a notch as we march into June. Everything is really rolling and I would like to thank everyone for their support.

Come back tomorrow for my next feature in I Know You Got Soul.

With that said, it's the L.I.R.I.X. signing off !!!

I Know You Got Soul: Will Be Back on Friday

What's going on everyone? Just letting you know that I got a lot on my plate right now. I'll tell you all about it when I get back on Friday.

S.O.S. is coming... S.O.S. is coming...

I Know You Got Soul: It's All About H.I.T.S.

What's going on everyone?

As promised I'm back with another blog about the production on S.O.S. I'll be giving you a breakdown about H.I.T.S. production record Back Stabber.

Earlier in the year Brian & Chris hit me up about some records they wanted me to check out. They sent over this chopped up O'Jays record and I instantly fell in love. The song is about people who you think are your friends but in the end all they do is stab you in the back. Its one of my favorites from S.O.S.

Here is the written song, take it in.

"Back Stabbers"

Chorus:
Backstabbers wan take your spot
They’ve been plotting all along
They wanna see you fall
They’ve been plotting all along
Backstabbers wan make you drop
They’ve been plotting all along
They wanna see you fall
They’ve been plotting all along

Verse1:
I’m tired of trying to be the nice
Had to decide to I let the nice guy die
Now I’m standing on top of the nice guy’s grave
Cold hearted charm; feel the ice in my veins
It’s a cruel world I’m caught up in a parlor game
Harboring feelings, scarred my heart & brain
Still wondering to myself; is it really hard to change
I’m caught up in a war between who’s good & evil
Is it my fault for trying to see the good in people?
Never thought I’d be second guessing my best friend
Ain’t a bitch how these back stabbers tend to blend in?
Only around because they sense of your aura of bucks
I didn’t order disgust; they ain’t here for aura of love
Never been a fan of pigs, everyone got the swine flu
When the truth is a lie, even the money can blind you

Verse 2:
All the while I throw pennies in a wishing well
I know that deep down they don’t wish me well
Instead they casting lines; fishing for me to fail
They trying to pull the wool over your dreams
Sometimes it’s hard to see the wolf in the sheep
I guess standing up in unison lost its Mystique
I’m in a tug a war feel it pushing me, pulling me
Not sure who to trust living like I’m Wolverine
Getting bad vibes I can only feel the hate in you
Now I’m fighting with X-men like Saber-tooth
I can only be me stay up, be true, keep it regular
Leaving scenes in the cutting room like directors
A new cast of Friends out of touch feeling extra
My life is a movie wit too many actors & extras
That’s what you get wit back stabbing investors

Verse 3:
When I was going through it, I did it on my own B
When I was on my lonely, you didn’t phone me
I’m dealing wit phony homies who don’t know me
Watch them closely someone’s always watching
So tell me this, who is it watching the Watchmen
Don’t just watch your enemies watch your friends
No values, no morals without codes of conduct
Everybody’s an artist; & every con wants a cut
The voice in their head spells a different agenda
All the while you thought this was a joint venture
There’s a thin line between being loyal & stupid
Friendships that were Royal end up being ruined
It happened with Jesus & Judas, Cesar & Brutus
You got to lift vales of betrayal to see through it
‘Cause every man wit a crown isn’t fit to be king
An these days anybody will shit on your dreams

Right now Brian, Chris & I are working on some new music for our project coming out at the end of this year. There's more to come so be on the look out for them and if you need production get at them. Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/heavyinthestreet

Don't worry, I'm not done just yet. Later on today, I'll be hitting you with a second dose about Krazy Jay and our song "Don't Give Up".

Stay tuned.

I Don't Know Where To Start ... 63,000+ Downloads !!!

What's going on? It's been a few days since I hit you all with some news. Consider today the first of many updates. There is so much happening right now, in the last few weeks. It feels like everything has really changed.

As you all know since 2009 started I have been running multiple campaigns with my devoted team of Grind-A-Holix. We released Second Renaissance at the top of the year in January and since its release it has done almost 25,000 plays on Myspace and almost 20,000 downloads. The record really has taken on a life of its own. Next week there will be a huge email blast campaign launching next Friday thanks to MP3 Waxx. Preston has also done some artwork to go with it and Record Pools have been requesting the record to give it a bigger push.

On Feb. 28th, I dropped Dub City Chronicles with DJ Law. Since the release of the mix tape it has gone on to do a total of 19,886 downloads to date. Each week we have been leaking a new record off the project for those fans who have favorites and for everyone to get something different each week. Each record we have released via various online media outlets has done over 1,000 downloads Each.

In March, Pro Logic and I began laying the foundation for my next project, S.O.S. (Samples of Soul). The project started because the music producers sent to me inspired me to really create something special. The vibe of all the records had sort sort of soulful mood to them. While we were working on the project I leaked a promo single for the project "Pretty Young Thing" which has done over 11,000 plays on Myspace and over 8,500 downloads. Each week of March I also leaked pre-mixed versions of I Wish & Be Who You Are (both have over 2,500 downloads to date)as well as Where I'm From (over 1200 downloads to date).

P.S. The S.O.S. campaign officially starts on Friday May 15th !!!

In the last couple of weeks as we have been tracking the numbers (Shout outs to Tiffany, Joanna, as well as Trini & JD) and the response over the last 30 days has been incredible. I would like to thank everyone for their support in helping me push my music to the next level.

With regards to projects coming out in 2009.

As many of you have heard A.C.E.S. is the next project after S.O.S. and you can look out for that in late summer. Right now A.C.E.S. is about half way done, I'm still working on loads of material for it. I should be finished with it by the end of the month. ... Don't worry there will be promo records and additional material floating around before it actually drops.

There is a lot more music that is being either mixed, written, produced or all of the above. On Wed I was working with my producers Brian & Chris of H.I.t.S. Productions. We started laying the ground work for our project ... I can't wait to get back to work on that this Saturday.

Today, I talked to Krazy Jay earlier about the music we are working on, been putting everything in place for the next wave of music.

In addition to all of that, I am also working on something special for everyone come the end of the year. More details on that down the road. In the mean time its back to the grind. So much to do and not enough hours.

There is a lot more big news coming... I will have more new music for you come the end of this weekend.

Quote: "Everyday you don't do it, someone else does... remember that." - L.I.R.I.X.

S.O.S. is coming... S.O.S. is coming !!!

Good Morning - Let The S.O.S. Campaign Begin

Over the next 4 weeks I will be doing multiple posts about the S.O.S. project. Covering everything from its initial concept all the way through who was involved and everything relating to the creative process.

We finished recording the project this past Sunday as I previously mentioned.

I will have another blog later on this evening going into more detail about the things to come in the following weeks.

Anyways, I'm off to the gym.

S.O.S. Update

What's good everyone?

I know I didn't give that blog update last Monday. I got into a zone writing wise. But better late then never. As you can see I've been trying to put the final touches on S.O.S. and get everything just right for the project. I am hitting you up before I hit the studio later to record the last batch of songs. Now, with that said, my team will be getting everything ready in the coming weeks. We will be leaking some new music from the project as well as promo records just to keep everything moving.

A Note about S.O.S.

The project was inspired by a lot of soul music and soul sounds used in the production that everyone sent me over the last 6 months. The project will feature 21 songs. It has a storyline to it as well as character arches through out the project. The writing process has been great, with each new record it felt like another piece to the puzzle had been added. The project Samples of Soul is all original production and is my most introspective piece of work to date. Before we release this project we are going to tweak it until we all feel it is perfect.

As we work behind the scenes, you all will be privy to seeing a track listing with all production credits (more on that next week), as well as hearing new music ) snippets and samplers)

With that said, I would like to thank everyone involved in the project (too many people to name but I will try next week). In each of the coming weeks I will spot light some of the people and companies involved in helping me put together this project.

I was online earlier and came across something that I know producers and djs have been digging for. It's not going to be Christmas for a minute but I have a Production Gift none the less.

Daily News

What's going on?

This blog is a little bit different, not really an update on the next project. This is about "Daily News" a record I think everyone should take a minute and listen to.
Everyday there is something going on in the world, its usually some bad news. That's all we seem to hear in the news. One day I remember hearing about 6 deaths within the span of hours in Toronto. It made me think about all the other crimes that had yet to be reported. I thought about out of all the crimes the percentage that would actually be solved. I guess you would say that's what inspired me to write "Daily News" off of the Dub City project.

On another note, Dub City Chronicles just passed 11,000 downloads since being released on Feb 28th, 2009. I would like to thank everyone for their support, not only by taking in the project but also by spreading the word.

With that said check out the record for yourself.

Another Day, Same Grind

What's up?

I told you I'd be back with an update on Tuesday.

Not only do I have an update on the progress with S.O.S. I also have a special treat for you. My first radio interview with Hype Magazine. You can find the link at the bottom of this post.

Now with regards to S.O.S. My recording session on Sunday was great. We got a lot of new music done. This project is really coming together. So far we have recorded around 13-14 songs for the project. I am still writing new material for the project and will be back in the studio on the weekend.

We are right on pace to finish the recording process by the end of April. After that we will spend the next 3 weeks editing, mixing, and mastering the record. I will have a track listing sometime next month as well as new music (buzz material) out each week leading up to the release of S.O.S. Right now, the art work and all the promotional pieces are being laid out. We are really trying to give everyone a great body of work with this project.

Now as a special bonus there is a new producer by the name of Young K out of Canada
who has just released a download project online. It's titled Young K Presents Jay Z - Canadian Gangster EP. It's a very cohesive project inspired by some Jay Z songs from previous albums. Definitely something worth checking out.

Here is the download link

Don't forget to download my tape... http://www.zshare.net/download/56222178eaa56740/

The March Movement

What's going on?

I know it's been a few days since I been on here. I got a lot of stuff I am trying to juggle right now. First off, I am going to be uploading another version of Dub City Chronicles with the extra verses that weren't on the DJ version(Shout outs to DJ Law). On the new version there will be a new Intro as an added bonus. Be on the look out for that at the end of this month. The response to the tape has been great so far. We are also planning on doing a hard copy press sometime in April, around mid month to push it as far it can go so be on the look out for that.

Right now, I am working on my next mix tape, S.O.S. (no Rihanna) its an acronym for Samples of Soul. The mix tape will feature all original production (with a couple Canadian producers on there as well). We just wrapped up another session for that day (Shout outs to Pro Logic). I would say we are about 10 joints in so far. I had been leaking some of the music that would be featured on the project (such as: I Wish, Be Who You Are, and Where From (new version has been recorded for I Wish and Be Who You Are). Back on Feb. 14th, I released the P.Y.T. which will also be featured on the project. Just be on the look out for more new music to come. It might not be every week exactly, but I will keep y'all updated as much as possible.

Lastly, I just wanted to shout out the rest of the team (Tiffany, Cassandra, Krazy Kay, Mike, Preston, Hits Production (Brian and Chris) Reewine Music (Trini and JD)and Nikki Wells. I really appreciate everyone's help and support with everything.

With that said, I couldn't leave y'all with no music at all. So what I have done and will be doing this motnh, is giving you some of the favorites that people have off of Dub City Chronicles. I will give y'all something this evening, and every other day going forward for the week.

Check back around 10:00 for the full version of Bring 'Em Out.

What's Next?

What's going on y'all?

I just wanted to come through and let y'all know that I been working on the last of Dub City. The art work is done (shout outs to Preston, keep killing it). All of that will be uploaded next week and you will be able to get a track listing on Tuesday. Today it is exactly one week away from the tape dropping. DJ Law is currently doing his thing with the tape. We definitely trying to make it an event. You will be able to get the tape online with a hard copy being made available in March. There will more info on Tuesday about all of this.

I'm going back into the studio tomorrow to do something special for the hard copy of Dub City and we putting together my new set.

The next tape you can be on the look out for is S.O.S. (Samples of Soul). This tape will be a lot more introspective.

There will be more big news next week.

Stay tuned.

Anyways,

That's all for now.

Until next time stay on your grind, cause I stay on mine.

A.C.E.S.
